- What is Echelio?
- Echelio is a coding assessment platform for schools. Teachers publish code tests and quizzes, students take them online in the browser, every code submission is graded automatically against the teacher’s test cases, and teachers see what each learner can do, skill by skill.
- Who is Echelio for?
- Schools and programs that teach programming: coding schools and bootcamps, colleges and universities, and secondary schools. Teachers write and run the tests, and students take them in the browser, with nothing to install.
- Which programming languages does Echelio support?
- JavaScript and Java today, with more languages on the way. In JavaScript, run on Node.js 24, students write a function. In Java, they write a method or a complete program that reads standard input and prints its answer. Each question is written for one language, and the school’s skill list follows learners across all of them.
- How does Echelio limit cheating?
- During a test, the editor blocks copy, cut and paste, and each tab switch is recorded with the time away. Hidden cases never reach the browser. No browser-based test can rule cheating out entirely: these controls make it harder and make it visible.
- Where does student code run?
- In an isolated Judge0 sandbox, never inside Echelio itself. Each case runs in a fresh execution with time and memory limits, and results are compared with the expected ones on the server.
- Where is Echelio hosted?
- On servers in Germany (Hetzner, in Nuremberg), where student code runs too. A few providers are outside the EU, such as the email service and, if your school turns on AI, OpenRouter. The privacy policy lists each one.
- What do teachers see after a test?
- Every run and submission, failed attempts sorted by kind, tab switches and time away, and each student’s score, with a CSV export. Progress turns the results into a level per skill for every learner.
- Can AI grade quiz answers?
- Yes. With your organization’s own OpenRouter key, AI can draft quiz questions and grade open answers, with a reason for each grade. Teachers can change any grade.
