Know what every learner can do.

Progress turns test results into a level per skill for each learner, says who needs attention and why, and prepares the follow-up test. Nobody fills in a skill grid by hand.

From results to the next lesson.

Every problem is tagged with skills from your school’s list, and every problem solved in a test counts toward a level in those skills.

  • A level per skill

Not yet, easy, medium or hard. A level is reached once three different problems of that difficulty are fully solved in tests.

  • Who needs attention, and why

A falling score, skills with no level yet, a missed test or a week without work: each learner on the list comes with the reason.

  • A follow-up test in one click

Create test picks problems at the right difficulty that those learners haven’t solved yet, and opens the test builder for them.

How Progress builds itself.

  1. Tag problems with skills

Admins keep one skill list for the school. Teachers tag problems, and Echelio suggests tags from each problem’s topics.

  2. Give tests

Every problem fully solved in a test counts toward the learner’s level at its difficulty, across classes and languages.

  3. Act on what you see

Open a learner’s page for their levels, tests, practice and quizzes, or follow up with a test for the learners who need it.

The details.

How levels and attention are worked out.

Levels
Not yet, easy, medium and hard, per skill. Three fully solved problems at a difficulty reach that level.
What counts
Code test solves only. Practice and quizzes never change levels, so a level always reflects work done in a test.
Skill list
One list per school, kept by its admins. Skills follow learners across classes and programming languages.
Needs attention
A latest score 20 points below the learner’s average, three skills with no level, a missed test, or seven days without work.
Student page
One page per student, with tabs for Progress, Tests, Practice and Quizzes.
Practice panel
Practice solves per student, by difficulty and skill, and when they last practised. No code and no failed attempts.

Questions about Progress.

What teachers ask about levels.

How does Echelio work out a student’s level?
For each skill, Echelio counts the different problems tagged with it that the student fully solved in tests. Three solved at a difficulty reach that difficulty’s level: easy, medium or hard.
Does practice change Progress levels?
No. Only tests count, so every learner’s level rests on the same kind of work. Teachers see practice separately: which problems each student solved and when.
Who decides the skills?
The school’s admins keep one skill list. Teachers tag problems with those skills, and Echelio suggests tags from each problem’s topics for admins to review.
Why is a learner listed as needing attention?
Each line gives the reason: a latest score well below their average, several skills with no level yet, a missed test, or no work for a week. The main kind of mistake they make is shown too.
Can I see one student’s whole history?
Yes. Each student has a page with their level in each skill, every test result, their practice and their quiz results.
Does Progress follow a student across classes?
Yes. Skills belong to the school, not to a class, so a learner’s levels add up across every class and programming language.
