Terms of use

These terms apply to everyone who uses Echelio. By creating an account or signing in, you accept them.

Last updated October 8, 2026

The service

Echelio is a coding assessment platform for schools. Teachers build code tests and quizzes, students take them, and Echelio runs and grades the answers and shows the results. Who publishes it is stated in the legal notice.

If you use Echelio for an organization, you confirm that you may accept these terms on its behalf. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.

Accounts and roles

There are teacher accounts, student accounts, and organization administrators. Students usually join through a class invitation and take tests with a join code; teachers belong to an organization. What you can see and do depends on your role.

Give accurate information and keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

Responsibilities of schools

An organization that uses Echelio is responsible for how its members use it. It must:

  • have the right to process its students’ and teachers’ personal data in Echelio, and a lawful basis for doing so;
  • inform students, and their parents where the law requires it, about how their data is used;
  • set clear rules for each test, and decide what happens when those rules are broken;
  • make sure it may use the questions and material it adds.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • attack, probe, overload, or try to escape the code sandbox or any other part of the service;
  • get into accounts, classes, or data that are not yours, or get around limits and rate limits;
  • use tools, scripts, or other people to cheat in a test, or share answers when the teacher has not allowed it;
  • upload or write content, including code, that is unlawful, infringes someone’s rights, or is meant to harm people or systems;
  • scrape the application or use it to build a competing service.

We may remove content, suspend access, or close an account that breaks these rules, and an organization may do the same for its members.

Content and ownership

Schools and teachers own the questions, quizzes, and class material they add. Students own the code and answers they write.

You give Echelio and your organization the right to store, process, display, and run your content, only as far as needed to provide the service: for example, to run students’ code, show results to teachers, and export a class’s results.

Echelio’s software, name, logo, and design belong to the publisher. These terms give you the right to use the service, not to copy or resell it.

AI features

AI quiz drafting and AI grading are optional. They work only when an organization has connected its own OpenRouter account, and the organization pays for their use and answers for its choice of model.

AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or unfair. Drafted questions may contain mistakes, and a grade may misjudge an answer.

Teachers keep the final word: they review drafted questions before using them, and they can change any AI grade. An AI grade counts until a teacher changes it, so teachers should check them.

Availability

We work to keep Echelio running, but we provide it as it is and do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change or remove features, and we try to give notice of significant changes.

Running code depends on an execution server that can be unavailable. Teachers should plan for that when they schedule an important test.

Ending your use

You can stop using Echelio at any time. An organization can close its members’ accounts.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or others at risk, and we try to tell the organization first when we can.

When access ends, data is handled as the privacy policy describes. Clauses that are meant to continue, such as ownership and liability, do.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury and for fraud.

Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited, and we are not liable for indirect damage, loss of data, loss of profit, or a test result affected by an outage or by an AI grade. Organizations should keep their own copy of important results; results can be exported.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For a significant change, we tell organization administrators in the application or by email. If you keep using Echelio after a change takes effect, you accept it.
